Setting up MFA

Before you get started

MFA is now mandatory on all staff and student University IT accounts.

When you join the university, your IT account is automatically enrolled in MFA. When you next log into MUSE, you will be prompted to register a device in MFA.

Own more than one personal University computer account?
You must apply MFA to all accounts. You can set up and manage MFA for multiple University IT accounts on the same device.

Please ensure you read all of the instructions and follow them carefully.

Device options

If you're unable to use the options presented, due to device compatibility issues or accessibility requirements, contact the IT Service Desk for further assistance.

Smartphone or tablet

Use the free Duo Mobile app on a compatible smartphone or tablet to receive Duo Push notifications or generate a passcode. It's quick, easy-to-use, and secure.

Having a smartphone makes for the easiest and most secure experience with Duo Push. However, If your working environment means you can't use a smartphone, for example, if you work/study in a lab or cleanroom where phones aren't allowed, then you can request a hardware token.

Hardware tokens are only available to staff users and postgraduate researchers with a clear business requirement, though anyone may enrol their own personal Security Keys at any time.

Contact the IT Service Desk if you have accessibility requirements or if your device is incompatible with Duo.
